Goodmans Transistor Radio model SG789l

serial no.342438

Goodmans SG789l Portable ten band (FM Long, Medium and seven short wavebands) transistor superhet radio housed in black plastic with grey imitation suede carrying pouch and instruction leaflet.Three type AA or equivalent cells are required for operation. I have discovered looking at information and images on the internet that it was made by Sangean, hence the SG in the part number, and that the same set was marketed under various names including Sangean, Siemens, Emerson, Nickermann and possibly others!

Sangean is a Taiwanese company which was established in 1974. The firm is still very much active, to find out more see the sangean website

This is one of two radios given to me by Tania Herniman in 2013 she says: "I have come across another portable radio. It is much newer although I have no record of buying it. It is a Goodmans "Model SG-789L 10 Bands Handy Radio". 6 1/4 inches x 3 1/4 x 1 inch. It has a grey case and the radio has LW MW FM also Shortwave which we used for listening to the BBC World Service when we were in India in the 1980's."
